Melting Point / Pouring Temperature

Pouring temperature: 45 / 55º C (+- 5º C)

Melting point: 38 / 40º C

Containers (Jars/Bottles)

For optimal results, jars must be clean and free of contaminants.

They should be at least at room temperature, although a slight preheating can be beneficial to minimize thermal shock.

Fragrance

Our Shea Wax supports between 5% and 12% fragrance load with oil-based fragrance oils specifically designed for natural waxes. This will allow excellent integration of fragrances and oil-soluble colorants, resulting in a final product with a deep and attractive aroma.

Pay particular attention to the type of fragrance you use; if you use fragrances designed for paraffin candles, you may get poor results such as weak scent throw, poor flame quality, mushrooming on the wick, and an undesirable finish.

Wicks

Natural waxes may require a wick diameter larger than that needed for a paraffin candle.

The fragrance you use (we recommend BrambleBerry or Mommy's Fragrances), as well as the colorants and the overall candle configuration, have a very significant impact when choosing the right wick.

It is recommended to perform a burn test once the candle has rested at least 48 hours to verify if the chosen wick is appropriate.

Pouring

The pouring temperature may vary depending on the type and size of mold used, the fragrance you use, the colorants, and the effects you want to achieve with your candle.

For optimal results, it is recommended to pour the wax at a temperature between 45 and 55°C, although this depends on the type and shape of the container you are using.

If you have problems with the pouring temperature, you can try increasing or decreasing the temperature in 5ºC intervals. Also consider pouring the candle into preheated molds.

Curing Time

A minimum curing time of 48 hours is recommended, in a room at room temperature, away from drafts, before performing the burn test.

Burn Test

Always check the wick you use.

Perform the burn test once 48 hours have passed since pouring to ensure the wick performs adequately, burning evenly with a balanced flame forming the "pool" on the surface of your candle and that it does not mushroom on the wick.

Mushrooming on your wick is when it chars at the tip, which interferes with combustion and can produce a burnt smell instead of fragrance.

If in doubt, test different wick diameters depending on the type of jar/container you use until you achieve a clean flame and consistent melting in your candle.

REMEMBER: Any combination of container, wax, fragrance, color, and wick must be tested to ensure quality burning.
